Ballet

Ballet classes vary according to the age of the student.  Beginning Ballet students work on the basic fundamentals in technique: locomotor skills fine & large, rhythm & cooperations skills, stretching, flexibility & center skills. As the dancer advances the fundamentals advance. Technique, combinations & coordination skills improve & advance with each year.

Each grade level progresses to learning more intricate & complex skills. Including partner work, cross floor, center adages, allegro combinations & more.  Emphasis is always on proper technique.

EDS Students will receive education in the Cecchetti technique as well as Vaganova.  They will also explore other styles, variations & techniques of Ballet so as to expand ones abilities & growth.

Tap

Tap starts in the 1st grade and continues up through the levels.  In Tap the dancer’s learns how to utilitize differents parts of the foot for both sound and technique in learning how to do specific steps.

Progression & advancement in learning the basic skills: turns,  progressions, coordination combinations, center floor work, cross floor work and combinations involving all the above happen in classes.

Tap is the legitimate reaon for a dancer to make noise during class while learning to hone their skills & technique.

Jazz

Jazz dance is an exciting form of dance to learn.  Jazz ranges from hard technical work, to funk & hip hop styles, moving lyrical works that cross into the realms of ballet &  Broadway.

Students at EDS will progress through each level learning core fundamentals. We add to each year by year like they do in ballet & tap in technique, skills, combinations & congitive training.  Learning the fundaments is your base and spring board for harder technical work.  Techniques that will make appearances are: Giordano, Hatchett and Termaine among others.

Modern

Modern dance has been called the secret voice in dance. Where dance movements can suggest a feeling or emotion of the dancer or music.  In modern dance your body is in motion, much like that of an orchestra, where you learn to move 1 part then add in other body parts.

Various Modern techniques are used in class so that the student develops complete awareness of the body.  Different styles of props, music rhythm & styles are used to enhance this unique concept in dance.
